V.I.P. Profile:
Ms. Anhalt has a bachelor's degree in Animal Ecology and a master's degree in Microbiology, both from Iowa State University. Before coming to her current position, she worked in an environmental toxicology lab, focusing on fate and degradation of pesticides in the environment. It was here that her interest in phytoremediation (plants) and bioremediation (microorganisms) of pesticides developed. This led her to her current position of odor reduction in the agricultural setting.
Jen currently works for the Agricultural Research Service branch of the USDA in Ames, IA. In her position she works as research support for the Swine Odor and Manure Management Research Unit. Jen's main focus is odor and air quality analysis by Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectroscopy. She is working to find a way to reduce odor emissions from concentrated animal feeding operations, more specifically, pigs. Through work with diet manipulation and swine gut microbial work, it is hoped that odor emissions can be successfully reduced.
