Microbiologist/Research Molecular Biologist
The incumbent provides expertise in the area of microbiology and molecular biology of yeasts and conducts research toward development and improvement of new yeast strains for the bioconversion of biomass derived sugars into fuel alcohol and chemicals. The incumbent will apply modern microbiological, biochemical, and genetic approaches to identify and improve yeast strains for the production of fuel alcohol and other valuable fermentation products from biomass derived sugars. The incumbent will further test strains for their ability to tolerate fermentation inhibitors. Selected strains will be evaluated for efficiency of productivity in experimentally produced biomass hydrolysates. The incumbent cooperates with other team members to develop improved fermentation systems for the efficient conversion of agricultural commodities. The incumbent will be required to publish research results in peer reviewed journals and provide supervision to support staff.
