Postdoctoral Research Associate Position in Environmental Microbiology

Applications are sought for a postdoctoral research associate position to work on a multi-disciplinary project focusing on molecular mechanisms of persistence of microorganisms in drinking water distribution systems founded by National Science Foundation. Candidates will work on the following project elements (i) DNA microarray analysis of microorganisms in response to disinfectant in biofilm and suspended form; (ii) bioinformatics and data analysis; (iii) biofilm in drinking water distribution systems. Expected start date is September 1, 2005. Duration of the appointment will be initially for one year with possible extension for an additional two years depending on performance and the availability of funding. The person appointed will be based in Department of Environmental Health Sciences and Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor and will work under the supervision of Professors Chuanwu Xi and Lutgarde Raskin. Compensation will be commensurate with qualifications.
Qualifications: Candidates must have a Ph.D. degree (Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Environmental Biotechnology, Bioinformatics or related disciplines) and strong interests in research on molecular-level analysis of environmental microbial systems. Enthusiasm for top-quality research and ability to work in a multidisciplinary team will be highly appreciated.
