HI
i'm doing my graduation in biotechnology and am now going to do a project based on methanogenesis by degradation of poultry and fish waste. my doubt is what type of culture technique would be most suitable,,i.e... being anaerobic microbes mostly ,,, would stab cullture technique work or would it be feasible,,, and is there any other method for detection for methane evolution such as a colour change or so ,,, i hope somebody would help............. smile.gif

Hi Zorro,

Are you trying to detect methane or methanogenic bacteria?

Methane should be easy enough to detect with a gas chromatograph and the proper Column. I am not aware of any color reactions to quantify methane.

If you are trying to scope out the microbial ecology of your system I would look to see if there are any nucleic material (DNA/RNA) probes that are specific to what you are looking for in your system.

Do you know of any fish waste biodigesters?
